This article focuses on the problem of the formation of phonological competence in English in Philology students. The phonological sub-component is one of the key–competencies of linguistic communicative competence which presupposes the ability to operate with the sound code of the studied language. The material considers the stages of forming the phonological competence such as Motivational-value, Presentation, Practice and Production.
